The omega-3 industry is a $1.3 billion market worldwide at the raw materials level, with a variety of marine sources making up a volume of 109,000 metric tons. With more than 4,000 human clinical trials showing that the body needs these omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, EPA and DHA, to develop and function optimally in every stage of life, it’s more important than ever that the nutraceuticals industry works to increase consumption of these vital nutrients. By most estimates, few consumers worldwide are getting enough. The ingredients segment of the omega-3 industry is diverse in scope and origin of the primary sources of EPA and DHA.
