DSM Venturing, Delft, The Netherlands, has agreed to invest $1.5 million in CreAgri, Inc., Hayward, CA, a nutraceutical company focusing on the discovery and development of antioxidant polyphenols extracted from olive pulp. The antioxidant polyphenols are sold as tablets and can be used as additives in sports nutrition products, infant nutrition products, bakery goods, savory sauces, cereals, dairy products, bars, oils and spreads and as a processing aid to prevent oxidation. By investing in CreAgri, DSM expects to accelerate innovations in the nutraceuticals area.
In other news, DSM Food Specialties, Delft, The Netherlands, and the scientific research institute Nutrim (Maastricht Nutrition and Toxicology Research Institute) of Maastricht University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, have signed a collaboration agreement in the area of nutrition and health. The venture concerns joint research into the development and application of food ingredients with health promoting effects. DSM Food Specialties will bring its know-how in the area of product development, while Nutrim will carry out research on the products concerned and their desired effects. Investigation will be carried out into the possibilities of these ingredients being applied to specific diets that contribute to the prevention of obesity, type II diabetes and heart and vascular disease.
