BGG World and its subsidiary Algae Health Sciences announced the completion of the second major expansion of its glass tube photobioreactor microalgae farm in the past two years. The microalgae farm is used to extract astaxanthin, a carotenoid studied for its antioxidant activity.
The expansion doubled the current capacity of BGG’s flagship AstaZine Natural Astaxanthin line of ingredients.
The groundbreaking took place in May 2022, and was fully completed within the company’s one-year projection. The expansion is located about one kilometer from the existing farm.
BGG’s farm was already the world’s largest, even ahead of the recent expansion. “We’re very pleased with getting this huge expansion done on time and within budget,” said Chunhua Li, BGG’s founder and chairman. “We’re extremely thankful for the support of our customers who made this expansion necessary; their appreciation of our unrelenting quest for quality and innovation is what makes BGG so successful.”
