BLIS M18 and its cell-free supernatant were effective in controlling the action of chromogenic bacteria that cause black dental stains, which are estimated to be present in 1-20% of children and adults. When black dental stains are removed by professional cleaning, they usually recur.
In the clinical trial, Blis M18 was shown to reduce the recurrence of the black stains in children who participated in the clinical trial after the stains were removed by a professional cleaning.
“Stratum Nutrition’s partner, BLIS Technologies, continues to produce stellar clinical research that shows the many different benefits and mechanisms of action of BLIS M18. In this most recent clinical trial, we can see how the nique bacteriocins and enzymes produced by BLIS M18 not only help prevent the formation of dental plaque, but also help prevent the activity of specific bacteria responsible for black teeth stains. There are undoubtedly more actions of BLIS M18 that benefit dental and gum health, and we are proud to be partnered with BLIS Technologies as they continue to pursue research on this unique oral-colonizing probiotic.”
BLIS M18 is delivered via a lozenge, to optimize the amount of bacterial colonization that occurs due to the supplement’s slow activation in the mouth.
In the human clinical trial, 58 children between the ages of 4 and 10 yeasr old with black dental stains were broken into two groups, one of which was administered the probiotic, and the other which did not receive any treatment. In the test group, black stains were detected in 21.2% of the children who were administered the probiotic, and in 50% of the children from the non-treatment group after three months.
After three months, the test group stopped receiving the oral probiotic. At the six month mark, both groups of children were tested again, and, still, only 32.1% of the children who took the probiotic had black stains on their teeth compared to 53.8% of
