Expo West hosted more than 2,700 exhibitors and 57,000 registered attendees, according to Informa’s New Hope Network, offering the latest innovations in natural and organic foods/beverages; dietary supplements and nutritional ingredients; and home and beauty products.
The natural and organic industry is expected to surpass $300 billion in sales by 2024, according to Nutrition Business Journal, representing an attractive market for consumers, brands, retailers, investors, and other stakeholders throughout the value chain.
Here’s a quick sample of products that represent broader industry trends, including focus on functional ingredients, transparency, and best business practices.
Mushroom & Oats
Lifeway Foods, Inc. showcased its MSHRM Oat line, the latest addition to Lifeway’s portfolio of cultured oat beverages. In addition to containing 10 live and active probiotic cultures these functional shots feature a range of mushrooms and adaptogens. The Calm variety includes 200 mg of reishi and natural vanilla flavor; Focus includes 200 mg of lion’s mane plus turmeric, ginger, and 100 mg of L-theanine; and the Support variety (wild berry flavor) contains a 500 mg blend of mushrooms (cordyceps, lion’s mane, miatake, reishi, and shitake) and 200 mg of aronia berry.
The company also debuted a dairy-free, vegan-certified Probiotic Oat Beverage late last year.
Dr. Bronner’s Magic All-One Chocolate
Dr. Bronner’s Magic All-One Chocolate Bars are based in 70% dark chocolate from cocoa beans grown using regenerative organic practices. The bars feature a unique blend of Ghanaian and Ivory Coast cocoa, Indonesian coconut sugar, Congolese cocoa butter, and vanilla from Madagascar, and are available in six flavors: Salted Dark Chocolate, Roasted Whole Hazelnuts, Crunchy Hazelnut Butter, Salted Whole Almonds, Salted Almond Butter, and Smooth Coconut Praline.
Dr. Bronner’s new Magic All-One Chocolate is a direct result of the company’s work to partner with farmers to improve the health and productivity of existing palm and cocoa trees in eastern Ghana through dynamic agroforestry.
The cocoa in Dr. Bronner’s Magic All-One Chocolate is sourced from the company’s Regenerative Organic Certified Serendipalm project in Ghana, which also cultivates the palm trees that produce palm oil for the brand’s Castile Bar Soaps. Additionally, Dr. Bronner’s cocoa supply chain works closely with Kany, a cooperative of women-only farmers in Ivory Coast.
True Grace: Nutrient-Dense, Sustainable Supplements
True Grace, a new supplement brand with a mission to improve the health of people and planet through nutrient-dense products, debuted late last year with three foundational lines: probiotics, multivitamins, and omega-3 fish oil. True Grace is aiming to revolutionize traditional supplements by focusing on nutrient density and practices that regenerate both the earth and the body.
The company’s probiotics line of vegetarian capsules (One Daily Probiotic and One Daily Women’s Probiotic) feature 90 billion total CFU at time of manufacture (12 quantified and DNA-verified probiotic cultures) in a patented bottle that protects from moisture, light, and oxygen.
The daily multivitamins line of vegetarian tablets feature vitamins from wholesome sources as well as fermented minerals and amino acid chelates, which are more bioavailable. There are two women’s formulas, including one for women 40+, and a men’s formula.
The company’s Highly Concentrated Omega-3 Fish Oil offers 1,400 mg of the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA in triglyceride form (4:3 ratio) from sustainably sourced, wild-caught Alaskan pollock.
