The use of vitamins and minerals to support health and wellness is nearly ubiquitous among supplement users. In fact, they are the most commonly relied upon supplement ingredients, according to the 2018 Council for Responsible Nutrition Consumer Study on Dietary Supplements, which found an overwhelming 98% of dietary supplement users surveyed had taken a vitamin or mineral product in the past year.
Market research from Mintel, Chicago, IL, indicated steady growth in sales of vitamin and mineral supplements, despite their already widespread use. Total U.S. retail sales of vitamins were estimated to reach $10.5 billion in 2018 (up 3.7% from 2017), while sales of minerals were estimated to reach $2.5 billion in 2018 (up 5% from 2017) (“Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements, U.S.,” September 2018).
