Super CitriMax, InterHealth Nutraceuticals’ patented calcium/potassium (-)hydroxycitric acid weight management ingredient, was shown to have no toxic effects in a two-generation reproduction study. The results, published in Toxicology Mechanisms and Methods, further affirms the long-term safety of this diet ingredient.
The study evaluated the effects of Super CitriMax on the reproductive systems of male and female rats, specifically the post-natal maturation and reproductive capacity of their offspring, and possible cumulative effects through multiple generations. Animals’ diets were supplemented with varying doses of Super CitriMax, equivalent to 1018 and 1524 mg/kg body weight a day in male and female rats, respectively.
Both parents and offspring were examined daily and a variety of reproductive parameters were assessed. Upon conclusion of the study, the reproductive systems and performance of animals receiving Super CitriMax were no different than those of healthy controls. Parameters evaluated included sexual maturity, fertility and mating, gestation, giving birth, litter properties, lactation and development of offspring.
In a subsequent next-generation, follow-up study, offspring of the first study were given up to 1524 mg per kg of body weight of Super CitriMax. There was no evidence of maternal or fetal toxicity in their offspring as well.
In view of comprehensive safety findings, Super CitriMax has been affirmed GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe).
