North American Reishi Ltd. (Nammex), a supplier of Certified Organic mushroom extracts, will introduce two new mushroom-derived ingredients at SupplySide West.
ErgoGold
Nammex will introduce ErgoGold, an ergothioneine extract powder derived from Golden Oyster (Pleurotus citrinopileatus) mushrooms, which also contains beta-glucans, ergosterol, insoluble and soluble fiber, and other metabolites. Until now, ergothioneine was only sourced from synthetic or purified yeast-derived isolates.
ErgoGold is suitable for those interested in a non-synthetic, natural, full-spectrum ingredient in a whole food mushroom matrix. Ergothioneine’s role as a redox regulator and antioxidant buffer makes it valuable as an active compound.
Mushroom-Derived Vitamin D
Nammex will introduce a whole food source of vitamin D derived solely from mushrooms. By utilizing pulsed UV light technology, Nammex is able to convert the fungal sterol, ergosterol, into high amounts of vitamin D2. The ingredient is suitable for consumers seeking a whole-food and vegan source of vitamin D that delivers recommended daily intakes of the vitamin in 60 mg.
The booth will also feature many of Nammex’s concentrated mushroom extracts, which have been experiencing growth through incorporation into functional foods and beverages, as the demand for products containing mushrooms continues to expand.
Steven Dentali, PhD, consulting science advisor at Nammex, will represent the company as a panelist for the session, “Not just a buzzword: The keys to making sustainability an actualized business practice,” on Friday, October 27th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. in Islander Ballroom C.
