Artemis International, Inc. (Booth 2757), a supplier of Berryceutical ingredients to the dietary supplement, functional food and beverage industry, has signed a distribution agreement for the U.S. with Distillerie Bonollo Umberto S.p.A (DBU S.p.A), a leader in the distillation of grappa and one of the most important producers in Europe.
Artemis will be representing Bonollo’s Ecovitis, a standardized grape seed extract with the highest level of OPC (oligomeric proanthocyanidins) available, 100% Italian origin from field to processing. Ecovitis’ benefits are a result of a proprietary and innovative water-based membrane extraction method registered by Bonollo and an advanced analytical approach based on the coupling of Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) and Electro Spray Ionization-High Resolution Mass pectrometry (ESI-HRMS).
Bonollo has a long history of obtaining distillates with a high organoleptic profile. Combining experience and technology, Bonollo developed a production system capable of enhancing all elements of the source material to produce Ecovitis and versatile enough to be applied to other botanical materials for new high quality nutraceutical ingredients.
Artemis focuses its ingredient portfolio on plant-based nutraceuticals that are high in flavonoids and polyphenols, so adding a high quality grape seed extract to its portfolio was a natural progression, the company said, as the grapevine fruit is particularly high in polyphenols.
“We are always looking to diversify our ingredient portfolio with innovative, science-supported products,” said Leslie Gallo, president of Artemis International. “Our focus has been on dark berry extracts—elderberry, aronia berry, tart cherry, etc.—so we are excited about this new venture with Bonollo, and adding Ecovitis grape seed extract to our offerings."
“The strategic agreement with Artemis International is instrumental for Bonollo,” said Paolo Morazzoni, scientific advisor of DBU S.p.A. “We are excited to introduce to the North American market our advanced technological approach for introducing new generations of plant-derived extracts such as Ecovitis.”
