Darin Skaggs is the director of services at Darwin Chambers Co. with responsibility for the service department, after-market parts, quality control and the IT department. Prior to joining Darwin Chambers Co., Mr. Skaggs worked as a business owner/partner of Calvex LLC, calibration/validation service provider for two years, and previously as a regional manager for Luwa Environmental Specialties, an industry leader in manufacturing environmental chambers and providing calibration/validation services. Notable is his nine years working for Environmental Specialties where Mr. Skaggs worked his way up from an installer of walk-in environmental chambers to a regional manager in the service department, and then moved up through the ranks and began to manage and support his initiatives. Under Mr. Skaggs’ leadership, Environmental Specialties grew from his customer service skills and his ability to resolve customer issues. In his current role, Mr. Skaggs leads a team of eight individuals providing calibrations, validations, sell of spare parts and service repairs, thus enhancing overall business. He resides in Pacific, MO, with his wife Vickey and their dogs George (Bouvier) and Farrah (Pomeranian). Health E-Insights: What are the distinguishing features of your company?
Mr. Skaggs: We are a young evolving company, hence the name, with the ability to adapt to new and innovative processes. We already are a leader in the industry when it comes to the utilization of thermoelectric technology for temperature control and ultrasonic technology for humidity control.
Health E-Insights: Is the supplement industry a large percentage of your customer base?
Mr. Skaggs: It’s approximately 30% of our customer base.
Health E-Insights: Was thermoelectric technology created by your company and what other technology unique to the industry do you offer?
Mr. Skaggs: The thermoelectric technology was not created by Darwin, but the design at which we utilize it was. We also use ultrasonic humidification to provide the most efficient means of humidifying.
Health E-Insights: What’s the proudest achievement of your career?
Mr. Skaggs: I’d have to say building Darwin’s service department from scratch.
Health E-Insights: Do you have a favorite city to travel to for business?
Mr. Skaggs: Either San Diego or Los Angeles, as the weather always seems to be accommodating.
Health E-Insights: You had some rough weather in your neck of the woods last year. Who’s the one person you would call on in a crisis?
