Artemis International has announced the launch of Fenuflakes, a formulation of debittered, defatted flakes of fenugreek seeds that is rich in fiber and protein, while also very low in fat and carbohydrates. This launch is the first of what will be a major expansion in the company’s portfolio which goes beyond the dark berry extracts it has historically specialized in.
“We think through every customer inquiry that comes our way because priority one is to supply the quality ingredients they need to move their business forward,” said Leslie Gallo, president of Artemis International. “Recent asks inspired us to make a major shift in our core business model to include a wide variety of functional ingredients, many of which will be ideally suited for food and beverage formulation.”
“We decided to start with Fenuflakes and are excited about the initial response,” said Gallo, noting that Artemis’ decisions have been fueled by market research on consumer health concerns, desirability of specific ingredients, and cost-effectiveness.
Fenuflakes is formulated to support healthy blood sugar levels, lower the glycemic index of high-glycemic index foods, and improve gut health. Formulating products with a low glycemic index, reduced carbohydrate count, and overall less sugar, has become favorable as 11.8% of the U.S. population now suffers from diabetes, according to NIH estimates.
Fenuflakes is suitable for numerous food formulations including baked goods, cereals, pasta, and more, and serves as a fiber ingredient with the added benefit of containing significant amounts of protein with several amino acids.
“Our valued customers have been asking for more ingredients outside of dark berries, and we are responding,” said Randy Kreienbrink, vice president of sales at Artemis and certified food scientist. “Fenuflakes hits the mark in terms of addressing multiple consumer health concerns. We have several additional ingredients in the hopper and are very excited about the potential for our expanded portfolio to fuel wellness for everyone and business success for our partners.”
