The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released a positive evaluation of GRN001033 for Fytexia DNF-10 ingredient. This DNF-10 is a yeast hydrolysate obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
The GRAS status allows DNF-10 to be used as an ingredient in food and beverage products like crackers, chips, popcorn, snack bars, meal replacements, and dry protein powders. This approval also opens the ingredient’s scope of application into functional foods as a scientifically supported ingredient targeting fat mass loss by modulation of appetite hormones.
DNF-10 has been shown to maintain the secretion of leptin, a satiety hormone secreted by fat cells. DNF-10 lowers the hypothalamic expression of the neuropeptide Y as well as downregulates ghrelin, the inner hunger promoter, from the low molecular weight peptides (<10kDa) found within DNF-10.
DNF-10 is water-soluble, heat-resistant, and recommended at a dosage of 500 mg/day for the formulation of dietary supplements and now for a large scope of functional foods, the company said.
