Nutrameltz Inc. has debuted its branded delivery system for supplement brands in North America. The technology is able to contain 250 mg of active ingredients in one melt, which is dissolved without the need for water and is absorbed buccally.
“Our R&D team was discussing the fact that supplements are now routine for practically all consumers, but we wanted to figure out a way to make them exciting, said Suresh Kolla, CEO and founder of Nutrameltz. “The challenges are that many people cannot swallow pills, while others are simply tired of them. When it comes to gummies, some don’t find the actual chew appealing, plus they are difficult for some people to chew. Let’s not forget that many gummies are also formulated with sugar, which diabetics need to stay away from.”
After a development period of six years, the company has now been building a portfolio of nutraceuticals.
“Another key challenges we overcame is the ability to provide a low number of doses needed,” Kolla said. “We can effectively incorporate up to 250 mg of actives in one melt, which is more than can be delivered via a typical gummy. The distinction of the melt over a chewable such as a gummy is that it delivers the actives into the mouth and is an experience to savor the moment with no calories.”
According to Nutrameltz, the new technology can allow for nutrients to avoid gastric fluids, which can improve bioavailability and potentially reduce gastric irritation. Additionally, the technology has a three-year shelf life, only uses natural flavors, and is free of preservatives, gluten, lactose, and gelatin. The products are available in blister packs to maintain freshness, as opposed to bottles which expose all supplements to air when opened.
Nutrameltz products now have 35 NPN registrations with Health Canada, with 10 more products currently seeking approval.
Condition-specific Nutrameltz products cover areas including antioxidants, immune support, beauty, mood, stress, sleep support, joint health, energy, digestive health, heart health, weight management, blood sugar support, women’s health, and eye health.
