Supplementation with Nutrition21’s branded ingredient NooLVL, a bonded arginine silicate with a dose of inositol, was linked to improved cognitive functioning scores in gamers who took several computer-based cognitive tests through the online platform Cambridge Brain Sciences.
Previous studies on NooLVL published in 2019 and 2021 have found that it significantly improved scores in POMS (Profile of Mood States) questionnaires, as well as improvements in scores evaluating focus and reaction time even after an hour of playing video games, according to Nutrition21. The studies specifically looked at “gamers,” which the authors defined as those who play video games for five or more hours per week.
The findings of the most recent study on the effects of NooLVL were presented at the Experimental Biology 2022 meeting. This present study examined healthy adults men and women between the ages of 18 and 32 who received 1600mg of NooLVL per day for seven days.
Each subject was asked to take multiple computer-based cognitive performance tests prior to supplementation, at baseline, the first day after baseline, and seven days after supplementation. These tests were designed to show how NooLVL influences the cognitive abilities and performance of esports gamers.
Compared to placebo, the participants who took NooLVL saw significant improvements from baseline to day one, baseline to day seven, and day one to day seven on measures of concentration and attention as measured by the Double Trouble Stroop Test.
Significant improvements in visual representation via the Mental Rotation Test were also found from baseline to day one, and baseline to day seven.
Lastly, significant improvement from baseline to day seven was found in forethought and sequencing, as measured by the Spatial Planning Test.
The authors concluded that based on the performance improvements seen across gamers who took NooLVL, a single dose can enhance concentration, visual representation, forethought, and visual processing.
