International ingredient supplier Lipogen recently announced the launch of Cognolipid, a phospholipid formula containing a patented combination of phosphatidylserine (PS) and phosphatic acid (PA), designed to support cognitive performance and response to high chronic stress.
“We are proud to expand our presence in North America with our cutting-edge science and research propelling phospholipid applications from memory to stress,” Ilan Perry, co-owner of Lipogen, said. “CognoLipid is a game changer as our studies have shown to be most effective for numerous conditions for a range of populations. CognoLipid is vegan, allergen free, and has an FDA-reviewed GRAS designation. Lipogen, a cGMP-certified company, manufactures this novel food in an FDA-inspected facility.”
The FDA has authorized a qualified health claim for PS, a primary CognoLipid ingredient, due to its supportive role in cognitive function and dementia. Studies supported by Lipogen which use CognoLipid specifically observed improvements in participants’ ability to manage high chronic stress – a benefit which research shows is also tied to a more optimal immune response.
There are no studies that demonstrate that PS has any effect on chronic stress in its single-ingredient form. However, in combination with phosphatidic acid, clinical research shows that the formula has stress management in addition to cognitive benefits, by balancing levels of the stress hormone cortisol.
Lipogen reports that while many companies reference its own research, only Lipogen can market its patented formula which has been clinically substantiated. A water-based, pure vegan-enzyme extraction process unique to CognoLipid mimics how the human body creates this nutrient, and this formulation is intended to promote quick absorption by the body and its brain cells. Lipogen reports that it is the only known manufacturer of phospholipids that don’t rely on chemical solvents to produce phospholipid formulas.
Additional research indicates that CognoLipid has a beneficial role in areas of women’s health by reducing PMS symptoms and high chronic stress, in lowering chronic stress in men, and, in lower doses, mitigating symptoms of depression in older adults with dementia.
