CBD Talk Podcast Host Dawn Peacock: Slashing Stigmas & Countering Misinformation

Podcast focused on relaying science to the public in a way that’s easy to understand.

Dawn Peacock’s experience as a marketing analyst for a billion-dollar animal health company combined with a history of volunteering that began in childhood up to her current position as a founding member of the Colorado chapter of Purple Heart Homes, collides in an analytical and heartfelt approach to her interviews and the viewpoint that she shares with her podcast listeners. Peacock is passionate about the benefits and safety of CBD, based on her years of personal experience using hemp to treat symptoms of Nail Patella Syndrome. Frustrated by the power of closed-minded people with an agenda to keep a plant under lock and key, she created CBD Talk Podcast with Harley Damico to support the spread of knowledge and slash the stigma surrounding one of the most powerful tools in any person's armory for good health.

Area Code 420 (AC 420): Enlighten our readers about your podcast.

Peacock: CBD Talk Podcast looks to provide knowledge about CBD and other cannabinoids to listeners by interviewing scientists, medical professionals, industry leaders, and advocates. We like to focus on science and education to remove the stigma and counter the misinformation around CBD. The purpose of the podcast is to create educated consumers and offer ways that CBD might benefit them.

AC 420: How was the show format developed?

Peacock: The very first thing that was clear in developing the show was that we wanted to make sure that it wasn’t going to be an infomercial. We wanted it to be clear that the podcast is not tied to a company, brand or product. After that, it was about getting good science to the public in a way that was easy to understand. You’ll hear me asking guests to break their information down in ways that non-industry people can understand, as that is our main demographic, but also contributes to the knowledge of industry people as well.

AC 420: Where can one listen to your interviews?

Peacock: The easiest way to find the listening platform that works for you is to go to our website at https://cbdtalkpodcast.com and click on one of the icons at the top of the page.  We’re on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, and Soundcloud and we have the video version on YouTube. We’re also on Amazon’s Alexa, but I haven’t had a chance to play around with that to see how that works yet.

AC 420: Have you interviewed any industry notables?

Peacock: In my mind, yes. Dr. Emek Blair came on the show and released results from his study before it was even published. I think our interview with Amy Hilterbran from American Medical Refugees was notable as it shed a light on people having to move from their homes to states that could give them legal access to medical cannabinoids. And I believe that Chris Driessen, co-founder of Organa Brands, would definitely count as an industry notable.

AC 420: Who would you like to interview and why?

Peacock: That’s an easy one. Who wouldn’t want to interview Dr. Raphael Mechoulam? But truly, what could I possibly ask him that wouldn’t be redundant with the volume of interviews with and documentaries about him that are already out there? Interviewing him would be for the purely selfish reason of having some one-on-one time with the man who revolutionized the understanding of how the human body works and created an entire branch of science that can change the way we look at treating ailments.

AC 420: Any plans to grow the show?

Peacock: Growing the show has never been a goal, but on the other hand we want to reach as many people that want to learn about CBD as possible. That’s where we come to the crossroads of being a more palatable show by changing the format and having shorter episodes rather than having a full discussion and being able to dive down some rabbit holes that shorter episodes wouldn’t allow. So, I’d have to say we’re on the fence on that one.

AC 420: What are the significant trends you see in the CBD/hemp industry?

Peacock: A couple years back, I mentioned that I wanted to see a machine in every drug store like Coke machines that you see with the touch screen and offers all the different varieties of soft drinks that they make. With studies on minor cannabinoids and terpenes, the industry is trending that way and will be offering a larger variety of cannabinoids and terpenes tailored toward specific wants and needs. Once the genetics are there to boost production of those cannabinoids, you will be able to get exactly what you need at the touch of a finger.

AC 420: Name one thing about yourself that most people don't know.

Peacock: To normalize CBD, I’ve published the first book in a series of romance/mystery novels that center around cannabinoids in an effort to reach a group of people that might not have much exposure to the topic. By weaving CBD into the storyline, they become exposed to the science, benefits and applications of hemp without realizing that they’re learning something. And I throw in a couple scenes where the guy has his shirt off to keep them turning the pages.
