OmniActive’s parent company Kancor, has been a manufacturer of premium ingredients, flavors and colors for more than three decades, with a business history since 1865. Further, Kancor has been serving leading companies in the food, health and personal care industries in nearly 50 countries.
OmniActive has experienced much success since its inception, growing from four to 145 employees in the span of six years, according to Hiren Doshi, business development director. This is because the company set its goals, follows them and only pursues ingredients it believes in. “We are in the fortunate position of only having to do what excites us,” Mr. Doshi said.”
OmniActive spends a lot of time developing and evolving a handful of ingredients, including Lutemax, Lutemax 20/20 and Capsimax. As its name implies, Omni Active makes sure it perfects all aspects of an ingredient before bringing it to market. It also prides itself on being active on all fronts—food, nutrition and health—as well as applying a pharmaceutical mindset to each ingredient it produces.
Going into more detail on the development of its lutein ingredient, Mr. Doshi explained, “We realized early on that we needed to control the supply. So we decided to grow our own (Marigold) flowers. As a result, we believe we know more about lutein than most others and we want to share that experience with our customers.”
Capsimax, which is based on capsaicin from red peppers, is another “hot” ingredient in the company’s arsenal. Given the inherent difficulties surrounding the encapsulation of this ingredient, many companies have been unsuccessful in producing. OmniActive on the other hand has developed a way to safely and effectively encapsulate the ingredient so that its pungency doesn’t affect the finished product or the person consuming it. Capsimax is touted for its benefits for weight management, sport performance and overall wellness.
Some of the company’s other key products and technologies include: OmniBead vegetarian beadletting technology and Ultrasol Dry Nutrient and Liquid Nutrient systems for lipophilic and unstable compounds, as well as proprietary ingredients, such as Curcumax turmeric (curcumin) and CateKan green tea extract.
“The nutraceuticals industry is in fantastic shape,” Mr. Doshi said, adding, “And we are doing well because we are forming relationships with like-minded companies and offering the versatility and services they are looking for.”—R.W.
