The Better Sleep Council (BSC), Alexandria, VA, and the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), Washington, D.C., have issued simple tips for consumers to help them sleep better, stress less and live healthy, especially during these worrisome economic times. New research confirms that cyclically poor sleep can elevate stress, and improving sleep quality reduces and helps manage everyday stress. The Oklahoma State University (OSU) study was published in the March Journal of Chiropractic Medicine. Being active and eating healthy both play a large role in sleep patterns. And with healthcare costs and unemployment rates increasing, CRN believes it’s important to think about taking an integrative approach to preventive healthcare. Along with daily vitamins, other supplements that may promote healthy sleep patterns include melatonin, valerian, 5-HTP, magnesium and calcium.
