In the wake of the widely circulated misinformation regarding Codex Alimentarius and its effect on the U.S. dietary supplement industry, NNFA, Washington, D.C., has launched a new online “Codex Alimentarius Resource Center.” The purpose of the center, which will be regularly updated, is to provide members and others with accurate information that dispels the increasing number of erroneous reports stating that sales of dietary supplements in the U.S. will be halted this summer as a result of international decisions. The resource center can be accessed from NNFA’s website at www.nnfa.org or directly at www.nnfa.org/codex/. The site features an overview of the Codex Alimentarius Commission’s activities, NNFA’s official position, fact sheet, FAQs and articles on Codex. Visitors to the center can also access official Codex websites of various U.S. government agencies, as well as resources on the European Union’s Food Supplement Directive, an international regulation often incorrectly associated with Codex.
