A report on the $21.2 billion Japanese nutraceutical market, called “Nutraceuticals Japan 2003: Industry Insights,” has been released by Paul Yamaguchi & Associates, Inc., Tarrytown, NY. The 114-page report covers both the functional food and nutritional supplement markets. The report states that last year the functional food industry was up 12.5% from 2001 to $12.7 billion in 2002 and the nutritional supplement industry was up 4% from 2001 to $8.6 billion in 2002. Included in the report is information about both government approved health claim functional foods, FOSHU (Food for Specified Health Use) and non-health claim functional foods.
