PLT Health Solutions, Inc. is launching a new line of omega-3 oils at Booth MM143. The line Élantria Ultra-Stable Omega-3 features food-grade raw materials, cutting-edge purification, deodorization and concentration technologies and a proprietary QualitySilver stabilization process that sets new standards for stability and shelf life. Studies have shown that élantria Ultra-Stable Omega-3 oils are two to five times more stable than conventionally-stabilized omega-3s, the company claimed.
Manufactured in state-of-the-art facilities by Polaris Nutritional Lipids in France, the initial élantria line-up will feature a range of concentrations of EPA and DHA products as well as combinations of the two, in both triglyceride and ethyl ester forms. These ingredients are targeted at consumer products companies looking to offer a premium omega-3 as well as the recommender/practitioner market.
According to Seth Flowerman, executive vice president of PLT Health Solutions, the Élantria line is a response to a market that has seen consumers willing to pay a premium for quality. “While we have seen a slowdown in the volume growth of the omega-3 category overall, consumer product introductions and sales of differentiated omega-3 ingredients and those that offer extremely high quality are gaining value share. With our traceable, sustainable raw material sourcing and the use of state-of-the-art technology at every processing step, the Élantria Ultra-Stable Omega-3 line offers a compelling option for those companies looking for a quality solution. In addition to premium mass and specialty markets, we feel that Élantria Ultra-Stable Omega-3 is ideally suited for the recommender/practitioner market where customers are counting on them to pick the type and brand of omega-3 they should use.”
Élantria omega-3 oils are based on food grade fish, selected for their high content of essential fatty acids. Starting with a high level of fatty acids means that less concentration is required in order to achieve more concentrated final products. These fish are from areas of the Pacific and Indian Oceans that are free from industry to ensure purity and quality. Ultra-premium grades of Élantria are derived from fish sourced near Mauritius. Polaris maintains total traceability of the fish catch into its processing facilities. Friend of the Sea—a non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) whose mission is the conservation of the marine habitat—certifes much of the Élantria line.
The omega-3 oils are produced with a range of proprietary processes. It starts with deodorization and the reduction of impurities, resulting in ingredients that contain barely detectable levels of contaminants and that are in compliance with the GOED Omega-3 Voluntary Monograph, European regulations and World Health Organization standards.
The oils are concentrated using a high vacuum molecular distillation technology. This technology allows targeted fatty acids (EPA and DHA) to be separated by molecular weight. Élantria omega-3s are available in both ethyl ester and triglyceride forms—based on preference of customers. EPA or DHA concentration ratios of omega-3 in the line range from 30% to 80%.
Polaris Nutritional Lipids utilizes its QualitySilver process to stabalize its marine oils and delay the onset and effects of oxidation. As a result, the omega-3s come with an initial shelf life guarantee of up to 3 years.
