Gnosis by Lesaffre, a supplier specializing in fermentation-derived ingredients, has launched Landkind Pure Salidroside.
The ingredient, derived from Rhodiola, is one of the two main actives in the plant, alongside Rosavins.
Salidroside is the most studied bioactive found within Rhodiola rosea or Rhodiola crenulata, with more than 680 scientific papers on Pubmed, versus 23 studies on Rosavin. The new ingredient, derived through Gnosis’ proprietary fermentation process, delivers “the best Rhodiola has to offer,” according to José Luis Pinedo Rivera, product manager of new molecules.
“Crafted by fermentation, we only produce the best bioactive of the botanical in a pure form without the possible trace amounts of heavy metals, pesticides, and residual solvents, that may be found in natural plant extracts,” said Pinedo Rivera. “Our Landkind Pure Salidroside is a bioengineered compound, whose safety is ensured by toxicological studies, with supporting clinical data.”
A new clinical study provides evidence that Salidroside supplementation might enhance oxygen uptake during graded exercise, while mitigating physical fatigue and mood disturbance related to fatigue and friendliness – the study findings will soon be available.
Landkind Pure Salidroside is standardized to 98% purity, and is evidenced to work at an efficacious dosage of 60 mg per day. The self-affirmed GRAS ingredient is Halal, vegan, and gluten-free.
A Sustainable Alternative
Rhodiola rosea is found naturally in high altitudes in Europe and Asia, and takes more than 20 years to mature. Increasing demand for Rhodiola products is creating a threat of overharvesting, and sustainable methods of harvest are needed to preserve the species.
Rhodiola was recently added to CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora)’s list of endangered species. Through fermenting salidroside, Gnosis bypasses the wild-harvesting process, ensuring that its ingredient is sustainable and CITES-compliant by design.
Lesaffre, Gnosis’ parent company, will invest in fermentation platforms in the U.S. and Europe to continue strengthening the company’s capabilities to deliver sustainably-derived molecules that benefit human health.
“At Gnosis, we believe in exploring life to improve living, which is why our natural ingredient solutions are all based on fermentation,” said Damien Zanalda, global sales director. “The groundbreaking fermentation process for Landkind Pure Salidroside is even more critical because it bypasses the need to harvest an endangered species. Rather, we can extract the best of Rhodiola with consistent purity.
“Most importantly, it offers brand owners a unique position,” Zanalda continued. “Our Landkind Pure Salidroside requires a lower dose versus Rhodiola extracts, which is much more convenient for formulators, leaving space in the product for other bioactives. Our partners can use our targeted bioactive to provide a natural energy component to their existing products or use it as a base for their natural energy innovation.”
Gnosis by Lesaffre will formally introduce the ingredient at Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California.
