At a first-of-its kind event called Neuro Navigators, held on Nov. 8 in New York City, experts from Kyowa Hakko discussed increasing interest in brain health supplements, and debunked some of the myths surrounding dietary supplements while presenting regulatory and scientific information to an audience of dietitians and nutirtionists.
Karen E. Todd, RD, CSCS, EP-C, CISSN, vice president of global brand marketing for Kyowa Hakko USA, led the conversation with opening remarks that covered the overall state of the industry.
Keri Glassman, MS, RD, CDN led the keynote discussion, while other panelists and guest speakers at the event included:
Attendees heard discussions about choosing the right supplements as one tool to achieve optimal brain health. Presenters discussed the importance of branded ingredients, third-party certifications, and regulated claims in searching for trustworthy supplements, as well as validating clinical research.
Discussions also covered how the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates dietary supplements, and in particular, regulations regarding how dietitians and experts can endorse products.
Gummies, and discerning quality among gummies, was another important topic of discussion, as this delivery platform has become a market fixture. The central theme of the event was educating healthcare professionals on assessing and identifying supplements with the highest-quality ingredients and efficacious dosages, as well as guiding clients responsibly.
