Plant-based protein and nutrition bar company GoMacro has partnered with international recycling company TerraCycle to offer consumers a free way to recycle empty MacroBar wrappers.
For every shipment of MacroBar packaging waste sent to TerraCycle, collectors can earn points that can be donated to a non-profit, school, or charitable organization of their choice.
“When it comes to helping the environment, it’s crucial that we do everything we possibly can to be a part of the solution, not the problem. This is why our recycling initiatives mean so much to everyone here at GoMacro,” said Jola Sonkin, co-founder and CEO of GoMacro. “We’re excited to partner with TerraCycle as we continue to help educate consumers about the impact they can make by reducing waste.”
To participate in the program, individuals can sign up on the GoMacro Free Recycling Program page and mail in packaging that is not recyclable locally using a prepaid shipping label. Once collected, the packaging is cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remolded to make new recycled products.
“Through this free recycling program, GoMacro is offering consumers an easy way to divert waste from landfills every time they open a bar as a pre or post-workout snack,” said TerraCycle CEO and Founder Tom Szaky. “By collecting and recycling these items, consumers can demonstrate their respect for the environment not only through the products that they choose but also with how they dispose of the packaging.”
In addition to launching the GoMacro Free Recycling Program with TerraCycle, GoMacro strives to make a positive environmental impact through sourcing ethical ingredients, embracing renewable energy, and reducing overall waste. For example, the brand has developed a manufacturing facility powered by 100% renewable wind and solar energy, purchased carbon offsets in partnership with Carbonfund, and actively reduced transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions by 60% through the consolidation of shipments.
