The maker of Splenda, McNeil Nutritionals, LLC, Fort Washington, PA, has launched Sun Crystals All-Natural Sweetener, which combines stevia with pure cane sugar.
According to the company, the product contains five calories per packet, and one packet has the same sweetness as two teaspoons of sugar.
“We are extremely excited to launch Sun Crystals All-Natural Sweetener," said Debra Sandler, worldwide president of McNeil Nutritionals. "What's more, because Sun Crystals All-Natural Sweetener is made from two of nature's sweetest plants—stevia and sugar cane—it delivers a natural sweet taste that consumers love, with the familiar texture of sugar, but without all the extra calories."
The product will be rolled out at Wal-Mart Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets across the country this month, and will be available nationwide at additional retailers soon thereafter.
McNeil Nutritionals is also pursuing efforts related to environmental sustainability efforts by using 100% recycled paper fiber, with a minimum of 35% post-consumer content in the manufacture of brand packaging.
Further, the Sun Crystals brand will donate one percent of its sales this year to the American Solar Energy Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the use of solar energy, energy efficiency, and other sustainable technologies in the U.S.
