The U.S. Army has approved a study on the use of EPA and DHA omega 3s to improve the mood and mental health of soldiers in Iraq, according to the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3, Salt Lake City, UT. The study will follow 250 soldiers for three months, who will receive either a placebo or fish oil concentrate pills provided by GlaxoSmithKline, the organization said. Patients will be evaluated using several psychological measures, as well as red blood cell concentrations of EPA and DHA. Lt. Col. Dan Johnston is the lead investigator, but is collaborating with researchers from Pepperdine University and the United States Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory.
