Due to the postponement of Natural Products Expo West amid COVID-19 fears, Wiley’s Finest, a company specializing in wild Alaskan fish oils, has debuted their latest products online, in turn stepping into the plant-based alternatives arena.
Wiley’s Finest CEO Sam Wiley said that he’s been approached for years over developing plant-based alternatives that pack similar clinically-supported health benefits seen in fish oil.
“We are passionate about the essential fatty acid category, and about our mission to serve the health and nutrition needs of all shoppers,” Wiley said. “The benefits of nutrients such as long chain EPA & DHA omega-3 fatty acids, the most clinically researched nutrients in human history, and natural plant sterols are clear. We recognize there are millions around the world who choose not to eat animal products, and our commitment to serve the health of everyone on the planet has just taken a major step forward."
The products are Bold Heart by Cardiosmile, and CatchFree Omega.
Bold Heart serves as an alternative to fish oil for those seeking to lower their cholesterol. The formula includes 2 grams of plant sterols, a quantity recommended by the U.S. National Cholesterol Education Program.
The product delivers 2 grams of Non-GMO pine tree sterols per serving in a liquid stick pack that can be mixed into hot or cold foods and liquids, and is calorie- and fat-free.
"Plant sterols are certainly not new or novel; they are a normal part of our diet,” Wiley said. “But science shows consuming higher amounts of plant sterols effectively manages cholesterol levels. The beauty of the Bold Heart formula is the innovative, patented liquid delivery system developed by our partners at Cardiosmile."
"Plant sterols naturally occur in beans, nuts, seeds, and whole grains, so many of us get some plant sterols in our diet. But for those who wish to lower their cholesterol levels, 2 grams per day of plant sterols is the amount shown in research to be effective,” Gretchen Vannice, Director of Nutrition Education and Research at Wiley's Finest, said. “Bold Heart is a convenient and effective way to do this."
CatchFree Omega serves as an alternative for vegans, vegetarians, or anyone not interested in fish oil who might not have a steady source of omega-3s in their diets. The product uses full spectrum seed oil from ahiflower, which has a higher quantity of omegas than what can be yielded from any other plant. Additionally, CatchFree Omega contains Algarithm, DHA which is sourced from algae, as well as MenaQ7, vitamin K2, and vitamin D3. It comes in two delivery methods, softgels, or as a tropical mango-flavored liquid oil.
All three of the new formulas are certified Non-GMO by NSF, and are certified vegan by the Vegetarian Society.
