With Actiplants Cherry Purevital, Symrise BioActives has introduced another highly purified plant extract to the market. It is ideal for nutritional supplements that are aimed at promoting regeneration after physical activity. It is the first cherry extract that comes with a standardized anthocyanin content of at least 16%. Thanks to the gentle and patent-pending SymTrap process, it also contains an especially high level of secondary plant compounds.
Ancient healers recommended sour cherries (Prunus cerasus L.) as a proven tool for promoting the health of the stomach and intestinal tract. Today, cherry juices and concentrates are known to minimize pain and promote the regenerative process, particularly following endurance sports and intense physical exercise. This effect is attributed to the broad spectrum of biofunctional ingredients in the sour cherry, which are known to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This makes them an ideal fit for the Actiplants family from Symrise BioActives.
The new extract is called Actiplants Cherry Purevital and is especially suited for use in nutritional supplements for the sport and exercise segment. Scientific literature ascribes anti-inflammatory properties to the sour cherry. This makes it useful for alleviating joint pain after jogging, for example. Actiplants Cherry Purevital particularly targets the regenerative process after intense physical activity. It alleviates muscle pain after running, soreness after a hard workout and reduces weakness following sporting activities by helping to restore isometric strength more quickly.
Actiplants Cherry Purevital is the first sour cherry extract with a standardized anthocyanin content of at least 16%. It also has the highest levels of anthocyanin and polyphenol on the market. The ORAC value is very high with 6,500 μmol TE/g and therefore comparable with higher standardized botanical extracts from other well-known red fruits. Furthermore, the physiologically important phenol acids, such as various hydroxycinnimic acids, are enriched in particularly high amounts.
A further advantage is the low glycemic index of the extract. The sour cherry contains very little sugar in its natural state and this is almost completely removed during the production process. The natural extract also does not contain any carriers.
In order to obtain and enrich the extract, Symrise BioActives uses its specially developed and patented SymTrap technology. This is necessary because the sour cherry fruit contains less than 0.1% of anthocyanins. The process works at low temperatures and therefore preserves the delicate ingredients very effectively. The physical process nearly fully conserves the potent characteristic ingredients and enables the production of extracts with especially high concentrations of active ingredients. One indication of this is the extract’s bright red color.
The fruits are sourced from Europe, and to manufacture one gram of finished product, Symrise BioActives needs about 72 cherries. This corresponds to about 305 grams of fresh fruit. The extract is available throughout the year without limitation.
“In the development of Actiplants Cherry Purevital, the high anthocyanin content was of particular importance to us. With its polyphenol content, our sour cherry extract offers the highest values in the industry,” explains Dr. Stephan Hillers, managing director of Symrise BioActives GmbH in Hamburg, Germany. “We offer exceptional value for money. This benefits both the manufacturer of nutritional supplements as well as the physically active people who consume this extract—and it is yet another example of the proven quality that Symrise BioActives provides.”
