NBTY Acquires Zila’s Nutraceuticals Business Unit
In June, Zila Inc., Phoenix, AZ, announced that it was considering the divestiture of its nutraceutical business, so it could effectively focus more on its cancer detection business. Two months later, it was announced by the company that its nutraceuticals business unit would be acquired by NBTY, Bohemia, NY. According to Zila, NBTY will purchase the business unit for $40.5 million, with $37.5 million to be paid in cash at close in October and the remainder to be paid through an earn-out formula that is dependent upon future performance of the business. Zila is the manufacturer and marketer of Ester-C and Ester-E.
