Pharm Nutra, New York, NY, has introduced a service that provides another chance for pharmaceuticals that have failed some phase of the clinical trials process to enter the nutraceuticals market. The company reviews product portfolios that have failed the clinical trials process due to insurmountable technical problems such as, for example, not reaching certain bioavailability thresholds—those products that would be marketable as OTC/dietary supplements are identified. Pharm Nutra then positions products under DSHEA (Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act), allowing the crossover from drug application to dietary supplement. Once ideal candidate products are identified, Pharm Nutra utilizes its contact base to find the right partners who will license the formulas, and manufacture and distribute under their own brands. The products can then be sold in health food store chains and independents, chain drug, mass market, independent and discount retailers.
