There are 10 mega trends pervading the global food industry, according to a new report authored by Julian Mellentin, director of The Center for Food & Health Studies, London, U.K. Titled, “Ten Key Trends for the Functional Food Business,” this new report provides professionals insight into the future direction of the food industry. The report indicates that health will be the future of food. In addition, it suggests that the kids’ nutrition crisis will intensify and that Asia will play an even more influential role in the creation of successful food concepts. Diet patterns also feature prominently in the report, including the rise of personalized nutrition, wholegrains and low glycemic index.
