In a review paper, published in FASEB Journal (Volume I: A492, Abs. 351.8, 2004), evidence from multiple studies was presented that concludes ChromeMate® chromium polynicotinate from InterHealth Nutraceuticals may favorably modify age-associated risk factors related to metabolism. Such conditions include obesity, high blood pressure, unhealthy lipid profiles, insulin resistance and glucose intolerance. According to the report, overweight women who were supplemented with ChromeMate experienced a significant loss of fat and sparing of lean body mass in a clinical cross over trial. ChromeMate also lowered sugar-induced hypertension in lab animals. Year-long supplementation with ChromeMate, grape seed extract and L-OptiZinc® safely reduced systolic blood pressure and free radical damage in test animals, while improving levels of glycosylated hemoglobin, a measure of blood sugar control. In aging diabetic animals, increasing doses of ChromeMate decreased free radical damage in organs, DNA fragmentation (genetic damage) and blood pressure.
