Prestige Label: Serving All, Big & Small
Prestige Label, Brooklyn, NY, is one of six companies existing under the umbrella of the Central Financial Group (CFG). CFG acquired Prestige in 1996 as the company was on the brink of insolvency, according to Elisha Tropper, president. “We were interested in building this company in a similar manner to our other businesses, with the objective of satisfying customers of all sizes in a custom product industry,” said Mr. Tropper. True to this goal, today the company’s business centers around tailoring its services and products to meet the individual needs of each of its customers, and prides itself on servicing companies from small to large.
It is this desire to work with companies of all sizes that drew Prestige to the nutraceuticals industry. “The nutraceuticals industry is a natural arena for us because of our commitment and ability to offer a wide array of printing capabilities and services for companies both large and small, each with their own particular graphics, printing and supply requirements,” Mr. Tropper explained.
What makes Prestige such a valuable resource to nutraceutical product companies is, according to Mr. Tropper, its unique combination of graphic design capabilities, pre-press technical skills and most important, the combination of digital and high-definition flexographic printing capabilities for which it is so well known. “In the nutraceuticals industry, attention must constantly be paid to label design and content, from both a marketing and a legal perspective,” he said, adding, “This requires the willingness and ability of a label company to partner with its customers in order to achieve cost effective solutions within what are often demanding timetables and other logistical parameters.” Mr. Tropper also pointed out that nutraceuticals companies must similarly be willing to work proactively with label companies and include them in the packaging development process as they revise labels, alter product lines and launch new products.
To further meet the needs of nutraceuticals companies, Prestige established its Nutraceuticals Partner Program. This program consists of a comprehensive offering of customized products and services designed to enhance the competitive advantages of nutraceuticals companies of all sizes. The impetus behind this, Mr. Tropper said, is to bring the benefits that large companies enjoy, due to their purchasing and logistical economies of scale, to the mid-size and smaller businesses in the industry.
The program capitalizes on the converging printing and logistics technologies and customizable services, which Prestige has assembled. By combining the advantages of high-definition flexography and digital printing with the process and logistics management techniques unique to CFG companies, Prestige has developed a system of printing capabilities and services that is within reach of companies of all sizes. Partnering nutraceutical businesses enjoy such benefits as no minimum order quantities and customized inventory programs, which enable higher volume price breaks and same day shipping, so that even the smallest company can enjoy the efficiencies of Just-In-Time manufacturing. In addition, the direct-to-press nature of digital printing provides label purchasers with rapid turnaround of new and revised labels, as well as the ability to order small runs of wide ranges of label SKUs without the costly up-front plate and set-up charge.
So how does Mr. Tropper rate the success of its Nutraceuticals Partner Program? “We have found this special kind of partnering to be very effective for both our customers and ourselves, and we anticipate continued success as our client companies grow alongside us.” However, Mr. Tropper cautioned, “As much as we might like to, we cannot always be everything to everyone. But where companies understand the benefits of working with us, we can certainly make a significant contribution to their business.”
Looking toward the future, Mr. Tropper understands that nutraceuticals companies will continue to be challenged to find a way to create an attractive label that meets all of the legal requirements. Currently, the nutraceuticals segment of Prestige’s business is its fastest growing, and the company will continue to shape its capabilities around servicing this industry.—R.M.
