Sabinsa’s Selenium SeLECT To Be Used In Alzheimer’s Study
Selenium SeLECT from Sabinsa, Piscataway, NJ, has been chosen for the U.S. National Institute of Health (NIH) trial called Prevention of Alzheimer's Disease With Vitamin E and Selenium trial (PREADVISE). This study will evaluate the potential role of vitamin E and selenium in prevention of memory loss due to Alzheimer’s disease. Participants taking part in the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) SELECT trial, a study that looks at the use of vitamin E and selenium, in the form of L-Selenomethionine, for preventing cancer, have been recruited for this study. About 10,000 men will take part in this study. Each visit for the PREADVISE study will involve a short five-minute exam of participants memory, and questions about their medical history on an annual basis, with longer memory tests slated for 500 randomly selected participants.
