Probiotic Association Formed
The International Probiotic Association cleared its final hurdle to become a tax-exempt organization when the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) granted status to the association as a 501(c) (6) organization. The mission statement of the International Probiotic Association is, “to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information, to establish scientific standards and to promote the benefits of the fermentation of products and co-products of probiotic microorganisms to humans and animals.” The organizing effort was spearheaded by Jarrow Formulas, Los Angeles, CA, along with Institut Rosell-Lallemand, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Microbiologist Lars Peterson of Danisco-Cultor, Copenhagen, Denmark, was also a co-founder of the organization. The first International Probiotic Association conference will be held in September of this year. Jarrow Rogovin is the founding president.
