Catalent, an 85-year-old supplier and manufacturer specializing in over-the-counter drugs, biological products, and consumer health and wellness products including dietary supplements, announced the completion of a $3.2 million expansion program at its consumer health manufacturing facilities in Strathroy, Canada, and Sorocaba, Brazil.
Each of the facilities has a new softgel encapsulation line, dedicated to Catalent’s patented Vegicaps plant-based capsule and CosmoPod twist-off capsule technologies. The increased capacity will enable Catalent to support its customers in these regions seeking to develop all-natural and plant-based vitamin, mineral, and other dietary supplement products. CosmoPods are an easy-to-use unit-dose capsule for beauty care products.
“We have seen increased consumer demand for greater product choice, with sales of plant-based softgel technologies growing by more than 25% globally in recent years,” Dr. Aris Gennadios, president of Catalent’s softgel and oral technologies. “Additionally, Brazil has grown to become the world’s fourth-largest market for beauty care products. While we have been supplying the North and Latin American markets with plant-based softgel capsules from our manufacturing sites in Italy and Germany, this investment allows us to provide local supply solutions to markets that complement existing capabilities in Europe.”
Catalent’s 110,000 square-foot facility in Strathroy, Ontario, and its 124,600 square-foot facility in Sorocaba, Brazil, both offer a broad range of integrated formulation, manufacturing, and packaging services to provide full-service turnkey solutions for the pharmaceutical, consumer health, and beauty industries.
