Netherlands-based DSM Food Specialties has launched a new ingredient geared toward glucose control. For the first time, the company claims, manufacturers can create products with an ingredient clinically proven to help control glucose levels after mealtimes.
The new ingredient, InsuVital, is a natural, extensively hydrolyzed casein consisting of bioactive peptides that work with the body to release insulin after intake. DSM says this results in a healthy reduction in glucose levels post-meal and improved overall blood sugar control. A highly versatile powder, the company suggests that InsuVital could be incorporated into a wide range of functional food and beverage applications.
According to DSM, clinical trials have shown that consuming foods containing InsuVital both stimulates insulin secretion and improves glucose disposal. Not only is this new ingredient beneficial to those people wishing to maintain healthy glucose levels, it also responds to the growing need for a food-based solution that will help slow down the onset and progress of high blood glucose.
“Recent data from the NIH and the ADA show that the number of Americans with higher than normal blood glucose levels has swelled to 75 million. Many of these individuals can help maintain healthy glucose levels with a proper diet,” said Pete Willis, senior marketing manager, DSM. “DSM has developed a truly innovative product for those with high blood glucose which offers a safe way to help control it as part of a healthy balanced diet. Products containing InsuVital start working from the very first mouthful to lower blood glucose peaks.”
