Algarithm and Natures Crops International have partnered to produce two new omega oil blends for supplement, food and beverage ingredient usage. These blends, Ahiflower 80DHA and 150DHA, are formulated for optimal sensory properties and oxidative stability.
The blends leverage both Ahiflower and Algarithm’s DHA oils and concentrates — alphamega3 and thetamega3 respectively. According to the companies, differentiating plant-based food and beverage products is much easier than from comparable marine omega-3 sources and more cost-effective than from typical algal DHA sources.
The companies report that the partnership signals a shift in the omega-3 industry toward demands for high-quality, plant-based alternatives to animal-derived products. Each kilogram of Ahiflower 80DHA or 150DHA is equivalent to what is produced from 4,000 fish.
“The Natures Crops team have been longstanding partners of Algarithm,” said Ben Kelly, president at Algarithm. “Since meeting, we have admired the quality, nutritional value and reach of the Ahiflower ingredient and brand. Seeking partnerships has been a core foundation of Algarithm since day one, and this collaboration will bring a new world class functional lipid to nutraceutical markets around the world. Many thanks to Andrew and the NCI team for working with us on this new modern take on a complete omega-3-6-9 solution.”
The ingredient combines regenerative agricultural practices and fish-free DHA, and is fully traceable back to farms and estuaries from which the raw material came.
“Ben and his great team at Algarithm produce an exceptional algal DHA product and when combined with Ahiflower, it fills a clear and large gap in the market that other omega oils haven’t been able to,” said Andrew Hebard, CEO at Natures Crops International. “We are very pleased to be partnered with Algarithm and share our aligned missions of providing omegas that are better for people, and better for the planet.”
Ahiflower crops are grown regeneratively by independently-qualified farmers to ensure purity and traceability. Natures Crops’ recently became a certified B-Corp, thanks to its focus on regenerative supply rather than extractive practices, according to the company.
