Sloiron will exhibit at IFT First, showcasing how its unique iron ingredient is well-suited to support formulas in the women’s health and GLP-1 nutritional support categories.

An estimated 30 million Americans are currently using GLP-1 medications, and eating fewer calories. Maintaining adequate intake of essential nutrients like iron is especially important, and altered dietary habits and gastrointestinal challenges may affect iron status.

Iron remains one of the most common nutrient gaps in women. Nearly a third of women of reproductive age are estimated to be iron deficient, with iron needs continuing through the perimenopausal and postmenopausal years.

SloIron ferritin iron is a vegan, plant-based ingredient produced from legumes. It utilizes ferritin, a protein that stores iron in a whole-food matrix. Unlike traditional iron salts and chelates, ferritin iron is absorbed through a natural biological pathway that helps minimize direct contact between iron and the gut lining, resulting in reduced GI discomfort and formulation challenges.

The ingredient has been shown to deliver bioavailability comparable to ferrous sulfate while offering improved gastrointestinal tolerance. Its sensory profile and formulation flexibility make it suitable for gummies, powders, chews, nutrition bars, beverages, and other functional foods. It’s also available in a water-soluble format containing 3.6% iron that remains stable at neutral pH. The ingredient is non-GMO, vegan, and kosher.

“As manufacturers develop products to support women’s health and the evolving needs of GLP-1 consumers, delivering meaningful nutrition in enjoyable formats has become increasingly important,” said Vincent Hackel, president and CEO of SloIron, Inc, Guzen Development, and JBSL-USA Inc. “SloIron enables brands to incorporate clinically studied plant-based iron into a wide range of food and beverage applications while helping overcome many of the formulation and consumer acceptance challenges associated with traditional iron ingredients.
