Booth 5265

Indena S.p.A. will focus on several of its flagship products at SupplySide West, including Relissa, Berbevis, and Anthocran Phytosome.

“We’re happy to be here once again, taking our recent updates to one of the most important trade shows in the world for the nutraceutical industry and to a strategic market like the U.S.A.,”  said Francesca De Rensis, marketing director of Indena. “Our botanical ingredients are meant to help people taking care of their health through prevention, lifestyle, and nutrition, and we keep working on research, quality, and innovation to provide our clients with excellent supplements. Moreover, we’re proud to share with the Supply Side West 2023 visitors what we continuously do for sustainability.”

Relissa

The company will be highlighting recent news about Relissa, its Melissa officinalis (lemon balm) extract, and its role in sleep support. The standardized botanical ingredient has been clinically evidenced to support measures of mood and sleep, according to the company.

It is standardized to contain 17-23% hydroxycinnamic acids, and is analyzed for rosmarinic acid content. Relissa is formulated with Indena’s phytosome technology, which can optimize the performance of the ingredient.

One dose of Relissa is evidenced to support mood and sleep for a 24-hour period, and is also linked to positive effects on the gut microbiome, activities in the GABA pathway, and antioxidant activity.

Serena Tongiani, chief product officer, will provide visitors with a full presentation on the ingredient on Oct. 25, 1:30-1:50 p.m., at the Supply Side Stage, booth 5670.

Berbevis

Indena’s berberine ingredient, Berbevis, sourced from the Berberis plant, is formulated with Indena’s Phytosome technology in order to optimize absorption. This Phytosome composition contains pea proteins, which are used as a carrier for the ingredient, as well as grape seed extract, which is included to improve the tolerability of berberine.

Clinical studies provide evidence that supplementation with Berbevis may improve blood sugar profiles, both by measures of insulin and glycemic effect. The ingredient also has a favorable safety profile.

Anthocran Phytosome

Anthocran Phytosome, Indena’s cranberry extract, is formulated for the prevention of urinary tract infections in women. The ingredient has a unique phytochemical profile, which is standardized for proanthocyanidins and contains the full polyphenol profile of the cranberry, including flavonols, anthocyanins, and phenolic acids.

Recent studies carried out by Indena provided evidence that the company’s specific cranberry formulation can prevent the biofilm formation of C. albicans, which can lead to downstream urinary tract health benefits.

Phytosome

In addition to showcasing ingredients, experts will also discuss Phytosome, the company’s proprietary technology platform for improving the bioavailability of ingredients.

The food-grade delivery system optimizes nutrient performance in a variety of ways. It is formulated with natural dietary ingredients called phospholipids, which act as vectors that can enhance absorption and interactions with gut microbiota, as well as improve the versatility of an ingredient across multiple delivery platforms.

This is done without reliance on pharmacological adjuvants or structural modification of ingredients, so the tolerability and safety profiles of these ingredients remain intact.

Sustainability Strategy

Indena will showcase the details of its sustainability strategies, for which there are five platforms: climate change, loss of biodiversity, waste, social vulnerability, and health.

Indena’s main plant, located at Settata near Milan, is run with energy efficiency technologies, including photovoltaic panels. The company expects that by the end of 2023, the company will self-produce renewable energy equivalent to what would prevent 2,340 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. By year end, 67% of the energy used by Indena will be self-produced, 23% of which will come from renewable resources, and the company will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5,177 tons. All of the company’s factories are certified according to ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
