Kappa Bioscience, a manufacturer of vitamin K2 as MK-7 under the brand name K2VITAL, will showcase the capabilities of its own ingredients in combination with those of parent company Balchem Human Nutrition & Health.

Balchem acquired Kappa last year, and the companies will discuss the new era of the merged portfolio of products which will allow for combinations never explored before.

“At this year’s exhibition we’re shining a spotlight on how our K2VITAL range can be combined with the wider Balchem product portfolio to address a multitude of on-trend health segments that are all centered on the themes of longevity and performance,” said Dominik Mattern, VP of science, business development, and marketing at Balchem. “The number of adults over 65 globally is expected to double by 2050. As life expectancy continues to rise, we expect to see increasing demand for supplements that can help people to live stronger for longer, so there is an exciting market opportunity for innovation in this space.”

Minerals for Longevity and Cognition

Chelated and specialty minerals from Balchem’s Albion minerals portfolio have been cumulatively evaluated by 200 scientific studies, dozens of patents, and nearly 80 completed clinical trials evaluating a number of human health benefits.

The organic mineral amino acid chelates are highly bioavailable, allowing for a reduced cost in use for CPGs, and have a greater tolerability than inorganic minerals, the company reports. When used in combination with ingredients patented for mineral combination such as K2VITAL Delta, this can offer a competitive advantage in cardiovascular and bone health.

The company will also showcase OptiMSM, Balchem’s branded methylsulfonylmethane ingredient, which is suitable to target several human health benefits including joint health, beauty from within, and exercise recovery.

Additionally, visitors will be able to learn about the liver support benefits of VitaCholine, a branded choline ingredient formulated to support lipid and homocysteine metabolism. The ingredient is also known for its inclusion in prenatal and infant products, as a building block of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that helps the brain send messages.

Funcitonal Food Formats

Kappa Bioscience will also highlight innovation opportunities with K2VITAL Delta, a patented microencapsulated vitamin K2 preparation, which is supported in over 400 tests for mineral formulations. Thanks to its cold water dispersibility features, K2VITAL Delta can be incorporated into functional food formats such as dairy and plant-based drinks, canned energy drinks, smoothie powders, and more.

Lena Leder, manager of science and content for Kappa Bioscience, will be delivering a presentation alongside Eric Ciappio, strategic development manager of nutrition science at Balchem, in the New Ingredients Theater (E70) at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9th, titled “Innovation Throughout the Lifespan: Utilizing Novel Ingredients To Support Product Development.”
