After its official launch at Vitafoods Asia, Activ’Inside will be introducing its vitamin D and green tea extract complex, ImrpovD3, in the U.S. at SupplySide West. The new ingredient is formulated for immune support, thanks to a patent-pending association between grene tea flavanols and vitamin D3.
Estimates suggest that one billion people worldwide are vitamin D deficient or insufficient. Vitamin D has a crucial role in innate and adaptive immune response, while green tea extract can boost this immunological reposnse by enhancing plasma antioxidant capacity and the function of immune cells called leukocytes, the company reported.
Activ’Inside has demonstrated a synergistic action between green tea and vitamin D3, suggesting the potential to support immunity.
Converting D3 to Its Active Form
According to Activ’Inside, the combination of green tea and vitamin D3 present in ImprovD3 can improve the conversion of D3 to its active form at a rate of 17% greater than D3 alone.
D3 needs to undergo an enzymatic transformation in order to convert to calcitriol, the active form. In an in vitro study on skin cells, ImprovD3’s formula resulted in significantly greater calcitriol production.
Accordingly, the patent-pending blend has the potential to serve as a means of offering a more efficient way of increasing concentrations of vitamin D3 in its active form within the body.
ImprovD3 is available for private label products or with complete customization, the company said, offering a unique opportunity for customers to experience a synergistic combination of vitamin D3 and green tea flavanols.
