Women’s health needs evolve across the lifespan as free radicals accumulate, oxidative stress increases, and hormonal changes occur, necessitating antioxidant support to promote health and wellness. From preconception health to menopause and beyond, Kaneka Ubiquinol® is a powerful antioxidant to support healthy aging for women throughout adulthood.

Free Radicals, Oxidative Stress & Kaneka Ubiquinol® for Healthy Aging

Free radicals are unstable molecules that are mainly produced in mitochondria during energy production1. During this same process, the body naturally produces ubiquinol, a powerful antioxidant that creates cellular energy and can neutralize free radicals at the source.2,3 With age, the body becomes less efficient at creating ubiquinol4,5 while free radicals accumulate, resulting in oxidative stress and damage to cells and tissues6 that have been linked to age-related conditions.2,7

A deficit in ubiquinol cannot be replenished by diet alone, due to low levels in food.8 As women go through perimenopause and menopause, decreases in estrogen — a natural antioxidant — further contributes to oxidative stress,9 increasing the need for antioxidant support to mitigate rising oxidative stress.

Supplementing with Kaneka Ubiquinol® is clinically proven to restore the body to healthy levels during aging.4 Kaneka Ubiquinol® has also been shown in clinical studies to support women going through times of hormonal change through its antioxidant capacity, including preconception, heart health, and menopause support.

Mitochondria, Preconception Health & Kaneka Ubiquinol®

The quality of mitochondria in reproductive cells is critical to support reproductive outcomes,10,11 and oocytes cells have a high number of mitochondria due to their energy demand during fertilization and development.12 Increases in age-related oxidative stress can impact mitochondrial structure and function, which impacts the health of oocytes.11 Ubiquinol supports female reproductive health by neutralizing oxidative stress, promoting a healthy antioxidant response, and supporting the mitochondrial health of egg cells.13-16

Healthy Mitochondria to Promote Healthy Aging for Women

In perimenopause and after menopause, there is an increase in oxidative stress in the body with the gradual decline of estrogen.9,17 This contributes to common physical, social, and psychological changes that women experience.17 A consumer use study demonstrated that 80% of women with menopausal symptoms taking 200 mg of Kaneka Ubiquinol® per day for 60 days reported less irritability, sensitivity, stress, and fewer mood swings after supplementation.18

Kaneka Ubiquinol® and Healthy Cardiovascular Function Across the Lifespan

The heart relies on mitochondria for its high energy demands, and mitochondrial structural integrity and function can be impacted from oxidative stress.19 In addition, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation status increases with age, which is a key factor in the flexibility of blood vessels.20 Kaneka Ubiquinol® has been shown to mitigate oxidation of lipids including LDL,3,21 promote mitochondrial function, and support energy creation,22,23 thereby promoting cardiovascular function.

The Type of CoQ10 Matters for Antioxidant Support

There are two types of CoQ10 in the body: ubiquinone (the conventional form of CoQ10)  and ubiquinol (the active antioxidant form of CoQ10). Conventional CoQ10 requires enzymes and energy to be converted to ubiquinol in the body, which is affected by age. Once ubiquinol functions as an antioxidant it converts back into conventional CoQ10. Ubiquinol is also more bioavailable than conventional CoQ10.24 Therefore, supplementing with Kaneka Ubiquinol® effectively replenishes total CoQ10 levels in the blood without requiring any conversion.24,25

Quality Matters in Antioxidant Supplements

Antioxidants are natural electron donors and can oxidize when exposed to light, heat, air, and other manufacturing processes. The type of carrier molecules included in formulations also impacts absorption. To maintain their antioxidant status, ingredients and formulations need to be made under tightly controlled environments and contain the right carrier molecules to ensure potency and absorption.

Kaneka Ubiquinol® is made and packaged under strict quality assurance and control paradigms, using preparations that have a long history of scientific research support. This is reflected in the Kaneka Quality Seal placed on supplement bottles of suppliers that follow this program and have proven to maintain quality.
