Robin and I worked together for years before the start of Nutraceuticals World but it was in the nutraceuticals industry that we both found our home. Before we began our research into the industry in 1997—or set foot on the show floor in Anaheim circa 1999—Robin already had stories about making her own echinacea tinctures by steeping the herb in a bottle of vodka or going to a kava party in Fiji where she drank a kava concoction from someone’s dirty head scarf.
Nutraceuticals World was launched in 1998, in an industry full of post-DSHEA energy, and Robin was key to our early success. She was the best salesperson to travel with because she knew her stuff and believed in the power of the nutrients we were discussing with potential advertisers. She could have an intelligent conversation with a botanicals company about how ginkgo was a great choice for improving memory as easily as she could talk about the heart health benefits of EPA and DHA (all-important nutrients we talk about all the time at GOED).
On a personal level, Robin was the consummate hostess and made a mean guacamole. She loved golf and a good martini and truly had a zest for life. One of our colleagues said about her, “I will always remember her for not being afraid to be herself.” This is truly a gift that she had—being able to be herself yet making others feel welcome in her world.
She will be missed by many in the nutraceuticals industry and beyond.
