Wyatt is the founder of Sovereign Laboratories, a Sedona, AZ-based brand of natural products. He also serves as the director of research of the Vibrant Life Initiative, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to recognition of personal health sovereignty and the belief that one’s commitment is essential to achieving optimal health and well-being. Wyatt is a leader in the research of colostrum’s unique healing components that show promise for helping the body maintain homeostasis. As a publisher, author, writer, scientist, and public speaker, Wyatt has appeared nationwide on television and radio shows and at health conventions worldwide. He is dedicated to achieving whole body wellness through natural nutritional intervention and has worked with the World Health Organization and other internationally recognized research organizations on clinical trials addressing HIV/AIDS, other infectious diseases, autoimmune diseases, and bowel health issues.

Health E-Insights: What led you to developing colostrum products?

Wyatt: It’s really a love story. My wife Kaye was one of an estimated 500,000 American infants and children in the 1950s whose thymus was irradiated. Kaye’s immune system was nearly wiped out and could no longer fight infections. Every bug that came along weakened Kaye, and she suffered with bouts of bronchitis and bacterial pneumonia. The vicious cycle continued as doctors gave her powerful antibiotics, which destroyed the beneficial (good) bacteria in her gut and put her on the path to an unbalanced microbiome and leaky gut. Kaye’s body was dying a slow death, and her desperation ran deep. No homeopathic medicine, Chinese herbs, or acupuncture helped. She was physically and mentally devastated, and one day, Kaye asked me to help her die. As if by Heaven-sent, I discovered bovine colostrum, and it was truly the greatest life-changing event we could have experienced. Kaye went on to enjoy life and her family for another 20 years.

Health E-Insights: What makes your colostrum products so special?

Wyatt: Not all colostrum is created equal. Ours is known for being standardized with the highest level of bioactives that work in synergy to help the body achieve homeostasis. We put our reputation behind our quality made from the first milking of pasture-raised cows and processed with our proprietary liposomal delivery system that ensures our bioactives reach every cell in the body. Sovereign Laboratories colostrum is certified Kosher and Halal and SGS/cGMP. Our colostrum is also lactose-reduced making it suitable for lactose-sensitivity.

Health E-Insights: Who should use colostrum products?

Wyatt: Because of colostrum’s wide-ranging and far-reaching health benefits, people of all ages should be taking colostrum on a daily basis. Modern lifestyles, food practices, medication use, and environmental exposures that contribute to leaky gut and low-grade inflammation are unavoidable by even the most health-conscious individuals. No single supplement, herb, vitamin or mineral has the power of colostrum’s 200+ bioactives that help mediate whole-body homeostasis. Certainly, anyone who suffers with allergies, autoimmune conditions, or a leaky gut-related condition should take colostrum products for optimal health. Even healthy people benefit from increased energy levels, greater strength and stamina, better bowel health, increased mobility, stress reduction, and overall mental health support.

Health E-Insights: How does stress affect the gut and thus what are the health benefits of using colostrum?

Wyatt: Ongoing mental and emotional stress can have a negative impact on the gut microbiome—the trillions of bacteria and other microorganisms that comprise the ecosystem within the digestive tract. An unbalanced microbiome allows the bad bacteria to get an upper hand which disrupts normal digestive processes, vitamin synthesis, nutritional uptake, immune function, and may lead to mental health issues due to the direct communication between the gut and brain via the vagus nerve. Colostrum supplementation helps keep bad bacteria in check and promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria. A happy gut equals a happy brain.

Health E-Insights: Can colostrum products be given to an infant, six months and up?

Wyatt: Colostrum supplementation is especially beneficial for infants who did not receive the benefits of their mother’s own colostrum of which ameliorating a newborn’s leaky gut is paramount to future health. Additionally, infant formula does not contain the living components—immune and growth factors—that colostrum and breast milk contain. These bioactives promote optimal growth and development during this critical period of a child’s physical and mental development. Even if infants were breastfed for the first six months as recommended, colostrum supplementation beyond that timeframe is helpful. Colostrum may be added to formula and age-appropriate foods or be used to supplement limited breast milk production.

Health E-Insights: What does quality mean to you and why is it critical to your business strategy?

Wyatt: Quality is everything. Without product quality, it can destroy the whole category. We’ve seen it happen and without trust, consumers won’t buy it again. We continuously monitor our quality and level of customer satisfaction. We only thrive when our customers thrive.

Health E-Insights: Do you have a strategy for company growth? New product formulations?

Wyatt: Each step in the growth of our company has started with a demand from our customers. That said, our product development is a multifaceted decision based upon research, superior quality and measured on how each new product will enhance or complement our signature line of colostrum products. Colostrum is Mother Nature’s perfect gift to us and cannot be synthesized or made in a laboratory. For this reason, our growth has been measured.

Health E-Insights: As the president of the company, how accessible are you to your customers?

Wyatt: After more than 25 years, I have spoken to thousands of customers and healthcare practitioners. I make myself available to speak to customers whenever I can. I created this company for them, and I feel privileged to share their personal journeys on the road to health.
