Innovation is the driving force behind BASF’s recently expandedFood Technology & Applications Center, which officially opened inmid-June. Located in Tarrytown, New York, the state-of-the-art facilityis part of BASF’s 60,000 square foot research and developmentcenter, which also is home to research laboratories forpersonal care and pharmaceutical applications.

BASF’s Think Newtrition marketing initiative describes how itsunique ingredient and formulation expertise can help customerscreate new products and improve existing ones for a variety of marketsegments such as food, beverages and dietary supplements.
“We realize that identifying the right ingredient for a product isjust one part of the process,” Barber said. “In our center, we caneliminate the guesswork and perfect the formulation to help ourcustomers efficiently market products that resonate with consumers.Whether it’s baking a cake with more volume, creating anutrition bar with better texture and taste, or adding an appealingcolorant to a beverage, we are your one-stop kitchen.”
BASF’s food scientists and technical specialists will offer workshops and on-site product demonstrations so customers can see and taste the advantages first-hand of using performance ingredients such as Lamequick whipping agents and Spongolit aerating emulsifiers. On the health side, customers can collaborate with BASF experts to add “Newtrition” without adversely affecting the sensory properties of the products.
“Using our broad range of capabilities, the Tarrytown team is especially focused on finding new delivery forms for dietary supplements and innovating the next generation of snack foods, baked goods, beverages and dairy products,” Mr. Barber said.
This investment in North America is part of BASF’s overall strategy to provide customers with a global network of technical and application support. BASF also has nutrition ingredient technical centers located in Ludwigshafen, Germany; Illertissen, Germany; Ballerup, Denmark; Shanghai, China; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Jacarai, Brasil.
