Wellness Herb Teas
The Republic of Tea, Novato, CA, has debuted Be Well Red Teas, nine wellness herb teas created with a base of organic South African Rooibos. Rooibos, or red tea, is a caffeine-free, anti-allergenic herb recognized for its antioxidant and immune enhancement properties. The “get gorgeous” Herb Tea for Clear Skin is rich in both antioxidants and natural alpha-hydroxy acids. It features skin soothing chamomile flowers with anti-inflammatory azulene, orange peel with bioflavonoids to strengthen veins and cell walls, hibiscus flowers for vitamin C, hormone-balancing chaste berry (so hormonal surges don’t cause skin to break out) and cleansing burdock root. “get it going” Herb Tea for Regularity provides senna leaf, which is known for its mild laxative effects, while ginger and anise help reduce cramping and gas. “get charged” Herb Tea for Energy provides a lift without the jitters. Three tonic herbs support the adrenal glands—Eleuthero (Siberian ginseng), Ashwaghanda root (the ginseng of India) and Panax ginseng root. Studies show these herbs help the body cope with stress while increasing endurance. “get a grip” Herb Tea for PMS/Menopause contains chaste berry to help keep the cycle regular and black cohosh to combat hot flashes. Dong quai extract, also a hormone balancer, nourishes the reproductive organs, while parsley leaves act as a diuretic. “get some zzz’s” Herb Tea for Rest provides chamomile flowers, passionflower and mellowing valerian root extract. A flavonoid in passionflower has been shown to have calming effects. Valerian root extract helps bring on sleep without interfering with REM sleep. “get lost” Herb Tea for Weight Control provides carob, cinnamon, banaba extract and gymnema leaves, which are known for their blood sugar balancing abilities. Gymnema has the added benefit of reducing the absorption of carbohydrates and may even reduce sweet cravings by interfering with the ability of taste buds to register sweetness. “get clean” Herb Tea for Detoxing features organic Rooibios with milk thistle, both detoxifiers, which help stimulate the liver, one of the body’s natural cleansing mechanisms. Roasted dandelion and blood cleansing burdock are traditional herbs used to flush the liver and gallbladder. Indian sarsaparilla root and red clover are both known as effective tonics and purifiers. “get soothed” Herb Tea for Scratchy Throats feature marshmallow root and licorice, which soothe and coat the throat. This blend also offers ginger and sage roots, which have cleansing and stimulating qualities that may help fight infection. “get relief” Herb Tea for Digestion contains cinnamon, which contributes both stimulation and thermogenesis (the process by which the body generates heat or energy by increasing the metabolic rate above normal). Peppermint soothes a tumultuous tummy and calms stomach cramps. Anise refreshes, and reduces gas and bloating while stimulating digestion.
