To support its organic product customers, Lallemand has introduced Bio-Engevita (organic inactive yeast) and Bio-Lyfe (organic yeast extract). The company has researched and adapted its yeast production to meet the organic regulation in the EU and in the U.S.
“Since organic is becoming more and more a mainstream trend there is a demand for a wider range of organic products — also processed products. We believe that our organic yeast and organic yeast extracts can be a helpful ingredient to create tasty organic products,” said Annemarie Halter, business development manager for the organic products for Lallemand.
With more and more organic products available on the market, the demand for organic yeast has increased, according to the company. Yeast has been regarded as an agricultural product since December 31, 2013 and has to be taken into account in the recipe of organic products.
Lallemand’s products are made in accordance with the EU organic regulation (Regulation (EC) 834/2007), which is also valid in the U.S. according to a June 2012 equivalence agreement. This means that as long as the terms of the arrangement are met, organic products certified to the USDA organic or European Union (EU) organic standards may sold, labeled, and represented as organic in both regions.
Lallemand Bio-Ingredients organic products are also GMO-free, vegan, gluten free, and Kosher certified.
