ADM (NYSE: ADM) has received approval from the National Health Commission (NHC) in China for its spore-forming probiotic DE111TM (Bacillus subtilis).
“ADM is committed to providing innovative functional ingredients and solutions that meet the highest regulatory standards and which meet the legislative criteria in China, and worldwide,” said Helen Hu, president of health and wellness APAC at ADM. “The approval process required by governmental authorities are rigorous and thorough, and this achievement is a significant milestone in our market development. ADM is the first and only provider of the Bacillus subtilis food ingredient to the Chinese market.”
According to an FMCG Gurus study, 78% of Chinese consumers recognize the link between their digestive health and overall well-being, and 78% find food and drink products positioned around improving digestive health appealing. Additionally, 57% of Chinese consumers have used probiotics/cultures to address digestive health concerns over the past 12 months.
China is projecting substantial growth opportunities for biotics, Hu added. “This is in part due to the country’s drive towards innovation, in addition to its strong population, economy and history of focusing on preventative wellness solutions.
