Asiros Nordic, a Danish grower, manufacturer, and supplier of berry ingredients, is introducing a lineup of concentrates, prebiotic juice powders, extracts, and liquid shots to the U.S. market.
The vertically-integrated company controls quality from field to factory, and offer complete transparency and traceability in growing, harvesting, and manufacturing processes.
Nordic berries are native to the Scandinavian and Danish region. Asiros’ berries are fingerprinted for identification and authenticity, and each Asiros Nordic BerryShield ingredient is solvent-free, and standardized for safety, purity, potency, and efficacy, the company reports.
The company’s prebiotic juice powders are also free of maltodextrin, an anti-caking agent typically used to dry juice powders. Maltodextrin was excluded due to its high glycemic value, and potential to disrupt gut bacteria, according to Jan Kuhlmann, CEO.
In order to solve the formulation issue, Asiros used Sunfiber or similar prebiotic fibers, which are available in certified organic and conventional formats. Sunfiber, a partially hydrolyzed guar gum, is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a prebiotic fiber and has been evidenced in over 180 published studies to support gut health. It is certified low-FODMAP, non-GMO, and is 100% water-soluble, tasteless, odorless, and colorless. BerryShield ingredients are also tested using fit-for-purpose Purity IQ tests on every lot to prevent adulteration, Kuhlmann noted, and no other vertically-integrated companies can say the same.
“The BerryShield line of juice powders was developed with Sunfiber to add the science-based fiber back into the juice and produce great-tasting berry ingredients that deliver prebiotic benefits along with efficacy and safety,” said Kuhlmann.
Replacing maltodextrin, a sugar carrier, with a functional dietary fiber enables added functional benefit, and the ability to label products as carrier-free combinations of juice and fiber, or as prebiotic juice powders.
The BerryShield line includes tart cherry, bilberry, aronia, elderberry, lingonberry, and red and black currant. They are suitable for tablets, capsules, soft gels, gummies, sachets, stick packs, foods, and beverages.
